Weaving Community, One Rug at a Time
At the Weaver’s Nest, neurodiversity will be celebrated as we teach, employ, collaborate, and work together for a better future for all.
The Weaver’s Nest exists to help build a community of all types of people in the process of weaving rugs.
We teach those on the spectrum to weave rag rugs in a supportive, nonjudgmental, safe place. We will hire several weavers at a fair wage and sell the rugs they create in order to continue to hire them and maintain the storefront.
We provide an introduction to weaving rag rugs. We set up the looms, provide the materials, and guide you along the way.
With the loom all set up to go, you can reserve one and come in to weave your own rug with supplies available for your use.
We are applying for grants daily and looking for just the right spot where our employees and volunteers can work together and feel comfortable. Since applying for grants is new to us, unfortunately we can’t tell when this will all come together, but rest assured it is our top priority!
While it will not cost our neurodivergent friends anything to learn to weave, we will need to charge our neurotypical friends. We estimate it will cost around $60 for you to come in for about three hours, learn to weave a rug, and then have a rug you will gladly display in your home or give as a gift.
Yes! We will plan on having specified times for weavers to come in and use the looms to make rugs. In fact, we’re contemplating having “party” times sort of like the “wine and paint” parties. Stay tuned!
No workshops or events at this time.
Come work with us as a volunteer! You can help make a difference in the lives of our employees and visitors by learning to weave a rug, helping with refreshments, keeping our website up-to-date, or in any of a million other ways! Just let us know your interests, and we’ll be happy to work with you to find just the right spot.
Come work with us as an employee! We will be hiring several employees with Autism or other differences to weave rugs (we’ll teach you if you don’t know how). Employees work on a part-time basis and will earn an above-minimum wage while weaving rugs to be sold. Come visit us and learn how you can fit in.
